Who We Are
Founder and Coordinator of the Aires Research Group (AirES)
Graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program at UTP. Experience as a Junior Engineer in a consulting firm dedicated to the design of energy sector projects. In 2015, she was awarded the Monbukagakusho Scholarship from the Embassy of Japan in Panama to study at Osaka University, where she obtained a master’s and doctorate degree in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Energy, specializing in computational modeling of air pollution and ventilation in urban areas. She is currently a scientific researcher at CINEMI, teaches classes at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and is the coordinator of the AirES research group. Her current projects are in the research line of emissions inventory, computational modeling using CFD, and monitoring of air pollution in urban areas.

Mechanical Engineer. PhD in Engineering Philosophy, focused on research into AI-based manufacturing processes. Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UTP and principal investigator of the project, funded by SENACYT, “Advanced system for the detection of defects in manual welding using artificial intelligence”. Co-investigator in projects for estimating atmospheric emissions from ships, development of the inventory of atmospheric pollutant emissions in Panama City. Student Scientific Advisor of the project “Development of a machine vision tool for the recognition and detection of defects in manual welding with coated electrodes”. He is currently a member of the Theoretical Computational and Applied Mechanics (MetCap) laboratory and Coordinator of JIC-FIM 2024.

PhD in Computer Science, University of Alicante (Spain). Master’s Degree in Higher Education. Double Master’s Degree in Communication Technology from the University of Wales and CESTE University Center, Zaragoza (Spain).
As a result of his research, he has managed to publish his results in high-impact scientific journals.
His current areas of interest are: Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Computer Networking and Computer Science.

She is currently a beneficiary student of the call for new researchers by SENACYT with the project APY-NI-2021-61, “Modeling and simulation of urban outdoor air pollution in Panama City” which has as its main objective to model and simulate the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants in critical areas of the city using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) considering the influence of fixed and mobile emissions, meteorology and local geometric configuration to estimate levels of outdoor ambient air pollution in the province of Panama.

She is a B-3 grade Instructor of the Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Laboratory at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at UTP. She has participated in research projects funded by SENACYT focused on social construction of risk and intelligent welding processes.

He has participated in various conferences, highlighting his participation in the 14th International Conference on Future Environment and Energy (ICFEE) in Matsue City, Japan, where he presented research advances of the project “Estimation of on-road mobile emissions based on the vehicle technology in a high-traffic avenue in Panama City”. Research intern at the Engineering Laboratory for the Evaluation of a Sustainable Environment, at Osaka University, Japan.

As part of the AirES research group, she has worked as a thesis student in the IDDS 22-43 project.
She recently successfully completed her research internship at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Under the title “Comprehensive Emissions Analysis: Industrial, Maritime and Port Site Sources”, her research addressed the complexity of emissions in different contexts, from industries to ports.

Graduated with a high school degree in science with an emphasis on computer science from the Saint John Bilingual School, and from the Technological University of Panama, with a degree in Environmental Engineering in 2023.
Currently, she provides technical assistance on environmental issues, as part of the air quality research group.

Winner of the New Researchers 2022 call for proposals with the project entitled “Determination of vertical profiles of atmospheric pollutants using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (E-Drones), winner of the Senacyt UTP Mobility call in the Research Internship modality at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.

Graduated from the Alfred B. Nobel Bilingual School in 2018, she is currently in her fifth year at the Technological University of Panama, Faculty of Mechanics, studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering. She has been a member of the AirES group since October 2023 to contribute to technological advances that improve air quality in Panama.

As a student, my goal is to continue growing professionally in this field and contribute to the advancement of technologies that promote cleaner and healthier air for all. I aspire to complete my thesis as a graduation work option in the field of air quality management, thus contributing to the development of sustainable and effective solutions to improve air quality and environmental health.
